Paula Yoo's fantastic new book, SHINING STAR the ANNA MAY WONG STORY made me cry. It is the profoundly moving story of Chinese American screen star, Anna May Wong, evocatively illustrated by Lin Wang. I loved it. I am going to go out and buy more copies for my friends' kids. I think they and their parents will appreciate the history and the compelling story as much as I did. I also love how Paula is writing about Asian American history; one story at a time, in a lucid, beautiful and highly palatable way. Where were these books when I was in school? Oh, right, Paula had not written them, yet. All I can say is: MORE, PLEASE!

MY ACE IN THE HOLE by SUSAN E. MATUS in THE BLACK BODY

Check out this beautiful new book edited by Meri Nana-Ama Danquah! Susan E. Matus' poignant story illuminates how it was to be a newcomer in Harlem, New York. I also loved her humorous biography. Pictured above: Susan, her husband and a photo of their precocious and adorable son.
