Strangers With Hay

I was sitting on the bench at the bus stop, minding my own business, when this chick came up with a bale of hay. Now, granted, it was a very small bale, but back on the farm, a rectangular thing like she was totin' would definitely be considered "a bale of hay." She caught me staring at her mini bale and said, "It's for my rabbits." Oh. I guess I am really not in NY anymore...

Out of the Mouths of Bus Drivers...

I got on the bus today and the dude driving said, "Hello, Small Portion!" I reckon this means that I'm the right size for when big is just too much!

My tourist tip of the day: If you are a couple, you may want to rethink wearing that matching outfit you picked up in Hawaii this past spring... I'm just sayin'...

A little help for Pat and Roger and Lina and...?

talk nerdy to me

i was wearing my "talk nerdy to me" t-shirt yesterday. as i walked by two big teenagers, one of them said, "nerds rule!" i wandered in a shop and this boy came up to me and said, "about your t-shirt... right after my girlfriend and i got together, she told me that she likes nerdy guys." and then he bowed his head down and frowned. everybody's a comedian... yay!

The King and I

Caught the amazing Patty Elvis Band last night at Davenport's! pattyelvis.com

I cropped me because I am vain and it looks like I have a double-chin in the photo.

Our dear friend, Dave Budrys rocked the bass and sang backing vocals. Scott Carson was whaling on the skins, as per usual. And Bill somehow managed to sound like three guitar players!

Patty's combo platter of being Jailhouse Rockstar skinny, hilarious and witty, with dance moves that would have made Elvis proud and vocal stylings that eerily evoked The King, made for the best Elvis impersonation I've ever seen!

Oddball Yoga

Now, some people might not be interested in something some might describe as "oddball yoga." But for me, this sounded intriguing...

I first met Alyssa Gaustad at my old gym, Clay. Her kundalini yoga class was off da hook! Gosh, I miss that gym... Such nice folks... And I swear, the calmest spot in NYC! www.insideclay.com

Anyhow, if you, too, are the type to be intrigued by yoga that's a little different,
check out: universalforceyoga.com

I just went by Alyssa's Wed. 12:15 pm class and it was awesome!

Blogger Guilt

I think I've added not writing in this blog enough to my list of things to fret about. I know this does no one any good, and yet...

The Jammin' Asian show at the Laugh Lounge went well, I think! I'm a little too fried to do the play by play, but suffice it to say, I had an awesome time and I was very entertained!
Big thanks to Tom, Air, Delilah, Karen, the Laugh Lounge, and all of you kind folks who came!
Also, special thanks to: Wendy Ip for videotaping, Nathan Lee for photographing, and
Charlie for the, "They're Real!" heckle! Oh, that's a long story... But kinda funny, maybe that should go in the act... Hmmmm....

Last but not least, mad big ups to: sweet Richard Loranger, one of my favorite writers/artists and people! I told him to his face how sweet I thought he was and he shot back with: By the time I'm fifty, I'll just be made of sugar... Dear Richard, I think you already are...

Quick Update on Christine

Many of you all out there know that I was doing what little I could to help Christine Pechera.

She has touched us all with her humor, talent, generosity, eloquence, strength and her sweet spirit...

A lot of you have asked, "How's she doing?" Some answers can be found on her site:
www.savechristine.com

From what I know, she is in the hospital recovering. It sounds like she is doing well even though she underwent the bone marrow transplant with a partial match donor. This was not optimal, but time to search for a perfect match ran out.

Christine seems to be in good spirits and complaining less about this intensely difficult experience less than I am complaining about the heat. She puts me to shame!

I think to say that she is being a trooper is an understatement!

If you are the praying kind, please put a good word in for Christine's bone marrow transplant to graft without any complications, and for her to have a speedy, full recovery!

If you happen to be a person of color, please consider signing up to be on the bone marrow donor registry! www.marrow.org

This is because if a person of color needs a bone marrow transplant, there is a good chance that there will not be a match on the registry. If you are white, 10 -20 matches might come up for a person. My boss/friend, Audra Synder told me that a friend 0f hers had a bone marrow transplant and is now doing great! If you can, please consider being a bone marrow donor. It is no longer a big, painful procedure and you could save someone's life!

Marketing, Marketing, Marketing...

Yesterday, I had an uncontollable urge to have a smoothie from Dunkin' Donuts. I blame their freakin' commercial with the catchy song about "not being hungry anymore..." It was around 4 PM, I was over heated and hungry and in front of a Dunkin' Donuts... Not good for the diet, but the mango smoothie was tasty...

I heard a story about marketing and children on NPR. A man went to see his doctor and he had his son in tow. At the end of the visit, the son looked up at his dad and said, "You forgot to ask him about Levitra."

Darn marketing.

My Brain is Grits

It's too hot. My brain is not working properly. I cannot blame it. It's not fit for human nor beast out there. Even in the cool, crisp air conditioning, my grey matter seems to balk at the thought of making sense of anything...

I was chatting with Michelle and she told me that REI is rated the ninth best company to work for in the United States. She said that REI has been on the list since its inception. That seems like a great thing...

The world is so mad right now, it seems reasonable to focus on the good...

I do love me some grits... Reckon it's time for supper...

Next Tues., Aug. 8th, 8:30 PM @ the Laugh Lounge!
