Virtually Gone Fishing

My laptop is no longer working. I will not be able to post for awhile... Till I buy a new 'puter... I found myself in the position of being a bad imitation of a Sex and the City episode when my pal, Wendy asked me if I had everything on my computer backed up. The answer was, "Uh, no." I even purchased my laptop from the same exact store that Carrie got hers from in the show, Tek Serve in Chelsea... I went to the Apple Store in Soho and the awesome Apple genuis there, Francis told me that the writer who wrote that particular episode came in and she said that she wrote in the laptop debacle as a warning to those who did not back up stuff that they had better... I guess tv is good for communicating information. If only I had taken heed...

My best friend, writer/actor/dancer/model, Carol Little is in town. She and I were walking around and a cab almost hit me in the knees. I immediately screamed at the top of my lungs, "What the f@!%?" Carol was amused and noted that she had never seen me so angry before.
My response: I think my anger has kept me alive in NY. God, I love this place. Is something wrong with me? I wonder...

I read sweet, talented Janice Erlbaum's book, Girlbomb: A Halfway Homeless Memoir. Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it 'cause I just couldn't put it down!
It was truly riveting. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. Check out her supercool blog:
www.girlbomb.com I can safely say that Janice has become one of my favorite writers of all time, which includes folks like Marsha Norman, James Baldwin, and dear friends like
Carol Little, Julia Cho, Richard Loranger, Jonah Winter, Christine Pechera, and a list that is really too long to list! What a wonderful literary world it really is! With beautiful words to
feed our souls!

Today...

I spoke with Christine Pechera on the phone. I am more and more impressed each time I speak with her... She is a truly amazing person, with one of the best attitudes, ever... She was talking about appreciating the time we have here on earth since none of us knows how long we have...

I have been just as impressed and in awe of sweet John, who was in the hospital all last week. He's a wonderful guy when he's well, and just as great when he is not...
I don't think I'm in as good a humour as he was last week when I am well.

Suffice it to say I am humbled by the likes of John and Christine and I feel very honored and blessed to call them friends...

On Becoming My Mother...

I should be so lucky. My mom weighs about ten pounds less than me. She exercises daily and watches every morsel that she eats. I hope to become more like my mom pronto.

I went to yoga class on Friday. I was complaining to Sylvie, the most excellent instructor, about wanting to lose ten additional pounds, but I like chocolate bars. She said I might be better off just having plain sugar because then I wouldn't be ingesting all of the chemicals.

In other news, a good friend of mine is in the hospital.
Life really is so unpredictable... If you are the praying
kind, please remember John. I'm praying for a full and
speedy recovery for him...

I am very behind on my reading. Ed Lin told me that I
didn't have to read his book, Waylaid because I did the
most important thing: I bought it.

I just bought Janice Erlbaum's brand spankin' new book,
Girlbomb: A Halfway
Homeless Memoir.
Check out her awesome blog ~

girlbomb.typepad.com/blog

The last poetry book I bought was
Richard Loranger's
Poems for Teeth
www.wepress.org/loranger

I bought Lisa A. Kirschenbaum's book, Small Comrades.
She told me that she agreed with Ed, that buying it was
the most important part...

However: author, Alexander Chee told me that he does not
agree with this theory. He said that I did have to read his
book, Edinburgh and that for him, buying it was not enough.

I can understand that.

The Fib

I receieved a nice message from dear friend and Russian scholar, Lisa A. Kirschenbaum. Her new book is due out in August! I will keep you posted! I saw the preview thingie on her publisher's website. Why do academic books cost a bajillion dollars? I guess the theory is that smart people are rich people... I really need to do something about my finances...

She sent me this link to Greg who is poetic and mathy...

gottabook.blogspot.com

So all you mathletes and writers reading this, go forth and fib!

Essentially, a "fib" follows the form of this sequence of syllables: 1/1/2/3/5/8.

if i were a fibber...

i
would
love to
stop feeling
so anxious all the
time but then i would not be me

Wendy Ip wendyip.com makes fun of me because I am so bad at math. (Yes, sadly, she has witnessed me unable to...) She's no longer sure that I'm really Asian...
