Rest In Peace Nailah O. Franklin

It is with great sadness that I report this news: Nailah Franklin was found, but she was not alive. I sent out a mass email message about her being missing. I would like to thank everyone who wrote back telling me that they would forward the information on and to everyone who posted the information in hopes that someone out there had information that could help find her.

God bless you, Nailah. And my most sincere condolences to your family and friends who clearly loved you so dearly.

The Nailah O. Franklin Memorial Fund at The Chicago Community Trust is now open and ready to receive contributions. The money will be used to help prevent violence and encourage young people's educational and social development.

Donors should make their checks payable to The Chicago Community Foundation and write the "Nailah O. Franklin Memorial Fund" in the memo line of the check. Donors should send their checks to Carol Crenshaw at The Chicago Community Trust, 111 E. Wacker Dr., Ste. 1400, Chicago, IL 60601.

Christine Pechera Update

Christine Pechera is alive and well! It's a miracle. A true blue spectacle, a miracle come true!

If you have a mind to make a donation to her foundation, please do.

I am certain the price tag for a bone marrow transplant, hospital care and all that stuff was hefty, to say the least.

I spoke with Christine on the phone last night. She sounded terrific. I asked her how she was.
She said, "It's like being homemade pasta." "Huh?" I repsonded. "When you make pasta, you start with this ball of dough -- that was me. And then you pull the dough through the machine and you get rigatoni. And you don't quite know what happened to you..."

God bless you and that big, beautiful world that awaits your next move, Christine!

Ana Guigui performing with Christopher Cross!

My dear friend, Ana Guigui anaguigui.com was playing keyboard and singing backing vocals for Christopher Cross last night. She also sang a beautiful duet with him! My first thought: Ana is as wonderful on stage as she is off. Following thoughts: Boy, is she a heckuva piano player and singer (and songwriter) or what! Christopher, with the likes of Ana, Chazz and Dave on board, sounded BETTER live than the recordings! And last but not least, who knew that Christopher Cross was such an amazing guitar player! It was an awesome show all the way around. christophercross.com
